BW BASKETBALL aCADEMY

 

Developing the person and player in young athletes while respecting life balance.

Founded in 2013 by Glen Coblens and a core group of parents, the BENCHWARMERS is a competitive basketball program for youth ages 10‐17 striving to teach life principles to young athletes. Coaches, athletes and parents all support the BENCHWARMERS Core Values emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, life‐long relationships and a healthy sport‐life balance. To be a BENCHWARMER one must commit to excel on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

LEADERSHIP

Glen Coblens

Founder/Coach
Glen Coblens has 30 years of coaching experience at youth, high school, college, professional and international levels, winning three gold, two silver and one bronze medal in international competition and coach of the year honors. In addition to BW Basketball Academy, Glen founded PDX Hoops, the premier youth training program in the Portland metro area, conducting youth basketball camps and clinics and training for youth coaches. He has also been instrumental in forming youth programs for Portland area high schools. Glen serves as a consultant for the Sports Psychology Institute Northwest counseling athletes, teams, coaches, parents, officials and program directors. He developed the Competitive Skills Training (CST) program teaching athletes to incorporate visual imagery, relaxation, positive self-talk and goal setting to enhance performance and improve self-esteem. Building on CST, Glen created 3’s for VICTORY, a reference guide for athletes to achieve success. After enjoying a career in the sports and fitness industry, Glen successfully created and led a new business division within the health and wellness industry. Graduating with a B.S. in Psychology from Western Oregon University, he earned a graduate degree in Exercise Science from Portland State University. A former two-sport college athlete, Glen’s passion for training continues by competing in mater’s basketball, triathlons and running events.
